Kentucky basketball coach Kyra Elzy and her family steal the show at Big Blue Madness

We are inching closer to the start of college basketball season, and the University of Kentucky's Big Blue Madness event is an exciting annual reminder.

Although basketball may not be at the top of Kentucky fans' minds, as the football team has a showdown with top-ranked Georgia Saturday, Big Blue Madness was the perfect event to build up the excitement for the contest in Athens.

The Wildcats' basketball teams converged into the Rupp Arena Friday night for an event full of highlight moments, touching tributes and hype for the teams' respective seasons. The crowd was pumped to fill the stands after an extended hiatus.

Out of all the action that went on during the ceremony and games, women's basketball coach Kyra Elzy and her family stole the show with their theatrics and sweet moves.

Elzy started the Big Blue Madness event off right, entering in a unique and somewhat dangerous way. While the majority entered through doors via ticket, the coach dropped in from the roof of the arena. As she descended to the court, the crowd showered her with cheers. She reciprocated the energy with fist pumps and cheers of her own.

When she touched the hardwood and unstrapped her grapple, she handed it off to her son Jackson, who threw down something viscous -- and it wasn't a dunk.

Elzy's son showcased his rhythm and flow, performing to Mary J. Blige's "Work That." Not only were his moves sweet, but he won over the audience with his attitude as well. It was an adorable yet profound performance from Jackson.

Coach Elzy's night didn't stop there, as she coached her basketball team during their scrimmage. She showed off her multitasking skills, indulging the SEC Network with an interview mid-game. The scrimmage and other events were great, but Elzy and her family stole the show and provided quality entertainment for fans.

This is Elzy's first Big Blue Madness event as the full-time head coach. She was named the interim coach last year after former coach Matthew Mitchell resigned in November. She became the head coach on a permanent basis the following month, and led her Wildcats to a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament that same season.

If getting them the No. 4 seed last year wasn't enough, Elzy's electric entrance should have fans excited for what she can bring to the hardwood this season.
